Church Resource Guide

How to Develop an Addiction Recovery Companion Ministry

Reach your community by offering hope for recovery from addiction, hope for restored families, and hope for transformed life.

This free PDF resource from Glenn Sandifer and the team at Unforsaken Ministry will help you walk with those in addiction and their families as they work through the journey of recovery.

Extensive research has proven the greatest need for those in addiction goes far beyond sobriety — it’s holistic and deeply human — and a church family is the perfect group to step into that space. Addiction is usually the symptom of a deeper problem — emotional trauma.

Use the information in this resource guide to start the conversation within your congregation.

About the author

Glenn Sandifer

Raised in a pastor’s home, Glenn spent much of his childhood in church but walked away from both church and faith after high school. Seeking purpose and acceptance elsewhere, he became trapped in years of addiction that led to broken relationships, academic failure, and homelessness. In March 1995, a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ transformed his heart and set him on a new path.

After surrendering to God’s call to ministry, he served as a pastor, where his own story gave him a deep compassion for those struggling with addiction. Walking alongside individuals in recovery reinforced his conviction that no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace.

In 2022, God fulfilled a long-held vision through Unforsaken Ministry, which exists to bring the hope of Christ to those battling addiction and life’s deepest struggles. His passion is to remind every person that, in Christ, no one is ever forsaken. Glenn lives in Trussville with his wife Marti.
